Writing Coaching
You bring the story.
I’ll bring the questions.
Together, we’ll figure out what comes next.
Maybe you have an idea for a book and no idea how to write one.
Maybe you’ve been working on a memoir for years and can’t quite see the throughline. Maybe you’re halfway through a novel and something isn’t working. Or maybe you have a manuscript, a clear goal, and need another set of eyes to help you see what you can’t anymore.
That’s where I come in.
I work one-on-one with fiction and memoir writers to help them find the story they’re trying to tell—and make it as strong as it can be.
How I Work
Writing coaching with me is collaborative.
This is your story. Your voice. Your work.
I’m not here to turn it into the book I would write. I’m here to ask questions, spot what’s working and what isn’t, help you understand why, and give you the tools to make it better.
Depending on where you are in the process, that might mean:
- Developing an idea into a story
- Finding the structure or throughline
- Working through character or voice
- Solving a stubborn story problem
- Learning craft as you go
- Creating accountability while you draft
- Figuring out what your manuscript needs next
I will encourage you.
I will also tell you when something isn’t working.
Kindly. Specifically. And with the goal of helping you understand how to fix it—not simply fixing it for you.
Because ultimately, I want you to become more confident in your own ability to see your work clearly.
Who I Love Working With
You don’t have to know how to write a book yet.
You don’t have to have a finished manuscript.
You don’t even have to think of yourself as a “real writer.”
But you do need to have something you want to accomplish.
I’m especially drawn to working with thoughtful, curious people who have something they genuinely want to say, whether it is fiction or memoir—and who are willing to learn, experiment, revise, and collaborate to make the work shine.
If that’s you, we’ll probably have a lot to talk about.
What Might This Look Like?
Every book—and every writer—needs something different.
Sometimes you may need ongoing support while you draft.
Sometimes you may need a few sessions to work through structure, character, or a particular problem.
Sometimes you may need someone to read pages, spot what isn’t working, and help you understand why.
Sometimes you may just need one really good conversation.
That’s why I don’t offer a one-size-fits-all coaching package.
We’ll start with your project, your goal, and where you are in the process. From there, I’ll recommend the kind of support I think would actually help.
A Quick Note About Manuscript Reading
When we’re actively coaching together, I may read pages we’re working on as part of that process.
A full manuscript critique or content/developmental edit is different. That’s a much deeper read and is quoted separately based on the project.
In other words:
Coaching is working on your writing with you.
Editing is taking your manuscript away and working on it for you.
Sometimes you’ll need one. Sometimes the other. Sometimes both.
We’ll figure that out together.
How We Start
Tell me a little about what you’re working on, where you are in the process, and what you’d like to accomplish.
I’ll read through it and, if I think I can help, I’ll invite you to a 30-minute Story Chat for $30.
We’ll talk about your project, what’s getting in the way, and what kind of support might make sense from there.
No giant program to sign up for.
No assumption that every writer needs the same thing.
Just bring me the story you have. We’ll start there.
